>>justine: the number of people applying for unemployment benefits jumped last week. jobless claims increased by 24,000 to 399,000. typically application's source in the to first weeks of the year. retail sales have been pushed to record levels. the commerce department is saying that the sales totaled a record of 4.7

trillion dollars. that is a gain of nearly 8 percent over 2010. >>mark: a developing story in san francisco, police are on the scene of a homicide investigation. a man was found stabbed and lying on the street. here is the location on google earth. officers responded to a phone call and found a 30 year-old adult's light industry with a stab wound. jackie sissel is live on the scene with an update. >>jackie: here is video, the police were called out, the call of a person down. they discovered one person, an adult male was injured. he did have stab wounds and was taken to san francisco general hospital where he

was pronounced dead. crime scene investigators and homicide investigators were combing the area looking for clues. they are also asking for the public's health. they say they do not have any identification of for a potential suspect but they are looking for the public's help. obviously it is a developing story. >>darya: standards as the police are investigating a homicide. a missing 14 year- old hayward girl. this hayward girl is missing. that is her photo. she was last seen tuesday morning. her name is darlene. her parents last saw her at 7:00 a.m.. family members believe that she took a taxi to the hayward bart stations ahead to oakland. her last contact with a friend was at 10:30

westbound commute still looks good. again, the right side of the screen is the westbound commute direction. traffic is moving smoothly. interstate 80 westbound as you work your way from hercules to the lower east shore freeways, as speeds are popping up in the '60s. it is still a pretty good ride for the lower east shore freeway and the upper east shore freeway. this out a freeway's look good with green showing on the roadway sensors. the north bay ride through marin county is still the way free. no problems for your trip down to the golden gate bridge. >>darya: of new this morning, parents are camping out to get their kids into school in santa clara.

>>justine: one of the stories we're watching comes from the washington times. it has to do with solyndra. the newspaper is reporting that attorneys representing this solar company in its bankruptcy case want to pay out bonuses to about two dozen employees. the bonuses ranged from $10,000-$50,000. the paper says that attorneys say the bonuses will help motivate the remaining until he's in to keep important personnel from leaving the company. i posted the entire article on my facebook fan page. >>darya: the president's campaign has brought in more

yesterday it was chilly and we've wound up with a record high court is temperatures. we're expecting more beautiful sunshine today. concord and livermore are both at 34 and 35 degrees prospectively. it is cold this morning and a relatively clear. visibility is not terrible yet, but you may notice foggy conditions. this afternoon we're looking pretty good. a lot of

people, especially near the great lakes are wishing they had weather like this. we could use some rain in we're going to get some. let's talk about their rain. this system is still up by alaska but by tuesday of next week their ridge of high pressure is giving us nice, clear weather. we will get moisture coming in off of the pacific. that will translate into rain for us and more importantly, snow for the sierra.

>>george: we are not attracting any hot spots. there are no major delays or problems. your drive on the bay bridge westbound, the metering lights have not yet been activated. we are looking at a very light ride for the bay bridge. the san mateo bridge is an easy commute in both directions. fox in very light traffic and an easy ride through marin county. dream on all of the major commute routes which means you have zero delays. a little bit of slowing of the dublin

interchange but no real problems for the ride in. the yellow indicates that you might get down to '40's. the south bay freeways are delay free. your ride along the mid peninsula, to 80 and 101 are both clear from the south bay in san francisco. >>darya: 6:23 a.m.. a high- school teacher in livermore is behind bars and accused of having a sexual relationship off with a boy under the age of 16. officers arrested marie johnson yesterday. they say she had sex with him in her

car and outside of school grounds. investors believe it was only one boy that was involved with this. new details, the man accused of raping three women is due back in court tomorrow after making a court appearance. he faces 26 felony counts including attempted murder, attempted rape and the locals counts of kidnapping. here is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it is moving pretty smoothly.

down 44% last year but likely to bump up this year. realttrac says the reason for the drop in foreclosures was because of procedural delays that artificially reduce the foreclosure rate. the number of homes facing foreclosure totaled 1.9 million which looked like the lowest level since 2007. laws vegas was the foreclosure capital and california had 10 of the top 20 highest foreclosure rates in metropolitan aerias. >>mark: we will be right back as the kron4 news continues. right now dow futures are up 21 points.

the traffic maps, the ride on interstate 80 is still a very smooth committed, so is the ride on 580 westbound leading out towards the dublin interchanged and continuing to the castro valley. some in the south bay, a look onto 80, it's pretty smooth commute. there was some congestion near the 101 interchange but speeds are in the '50s and '60s towards cupertino. >>darya: 6:34 a.m.. san francisco police are investigating a homicide this morning. they found a 30 year-old adult suffering from stabbed once. he was taken to a local hospital where he died. this is san francisco's first homicide of the year.

>>mark: in san jose, firefighters are on the scene of the house fired near capitol expressway. will tran is live at the scene. swilled >> fire investigators believe the fire started right here on the first floor probably from a heater. when they got here this place was fully engulfed and the fire raced its way through walls and into the ads. they also noticed flames shooting out from upstairs. fortunately, no one was hooked--no one was hurt. the alarm company called a family friend who was watching a home. that family friend, that was the person who called the fire department. the cars parked in the garage were not damaged. the fire department

bundle " rat >>mark: today marks the two- year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in haiti. here is the video from january 2010 when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit in port-au-prince. more than 300,000 people were injured. nearly 5000 schools were damaged or destroyed and 1.5 million left homeless. the earth quake affected one- third of the country and they're still trying to recover today.

>>james: the national map shows us the bulk of nasty weather is hanging around the great lakes and towards the northeast. as we push and you will see right around here we see the effects on the airports. did you have any flights taking you to the east coast, call a half. around the bay, pretty good conditions. the north bay is shirting-- starting does show some fog. clear and cold for most of the day. our highs will be in the mid '60s. freezing temperatures overnight. here
